Hello, Astoria!
My name is Stacey, and I'm the founder and creator behind Astoria Live. I moved to Astoria in January of 2016 and fell in love with the vibrant, creative, multicultural, and kind community we have here. I decided to create Astoria Live as a place to share all of the amazing events happening in our community on this website, instagram, and through a monthly email newsletter in the hopes of making it easier for Astorians to connect in real life and support our local businesses.
Cue March 2020. Just after sending a newsletter about March events, it became clear that I could not in good conscience continue promoting in-person events for a little while. I shifted gears into promoting local small businesses as best I could in these tough times, and sharing information on Covid, mutual aid, and other information for community members.
Now that events are happening again, but the end of the pandemic is nowhere in sight, I've been thinking a lot about the future of Astoria Live. Here are my three focus areas:
-
Fostering community connection through events and groups
-
Supporting local businesses, creators, artists, and organizations
-
Sharing information about local elections and other issues (like Covid) that effect the community
Lots more to come, and I welcome your feedback anytime at hello@astorialive.com
When I'm not sharing posts to the Astoria Live instagram and wandering the neighborhood, you can find me volunteering with the 31st Ave Open Street, and working full time as a Product Designer.
